New Time Out Van—A Car with a Legacy:
Pat Fiore of Fiore Associates provided the means for much needed transportation for our Time Out Seniors. This is not just any van, though. Pat tells the story of its legacy...
The car was originally purchased new by my cousin Anthony in 1997. Anthony had progressive MS but was determined to get his College degree in accounting. He had the car handicap prepared and used it only to go from Summit to Kean College. Due to his progressive illness it took him 7 years to complete college with a BA in accounting, graduating with honors. He went into a nursing home shortly after and passed away just 5 months ago at 43 yrs old. When Anthony was no longer able to drive he gifted the car to our uncle Ed (Ed lived with me for 10 years) and he used the car for local driving -- mostly Madison, Mendham, Summit and Home Depot for supplies and to Reynolds Nursing home to visit Anthony. Ed was a lover of birds, who designed and built custom bird houses. Those bird houses grace the backyards of hundreds of people locally and family members across the US. (I have a dozen incredible ones in my yard.) This van was used by two very important men in our family who died much too young. Ed passed away November 20th at 73 yrs old. It would be lovely to know that it will be used by people with great heart, just like the original owners.
