FSMC early childhood education specialists provided backpacks to preschool children at the Jefferson Child Care and Education Center, donated by Nestle-Gerber.  Pictured by the sign (L-R) are Christine Murray, Center Director and FSMC staff members Kathleen Scherer and Laura Gorin.

"The donation of baby food from Nestle Gerber makes a real difference for our families." stated Alejita Ortiz, FSMC Licensed Clinical Social Worker (pictured here with one of our families). "We are seeing through our FSMC early childhood prevention program (STEP-by-Step) that many of these families had been on the edge financially prior to the recession, but the current economy is sending them over the brink. This donation is not only a real gift for the baby, but also for the whole family, as they can now use their limited funds for diapers and nutritious food for the older children."

Thanks to Dr. Myung Shin, Associate Scientific Director at Merck, and 50 Merck employees, FMSC preschool children and visually impaired adults will enjoy a collection of reading materials. These materials include cardboard books, large print books and books on tape. These books were provided to FSMC in bookshelves that were built by hand. "Our group enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at your Madison Adult Day Center and feedback from the group that visited the Morris Plains facility was similar. We enjoyed an afternoon of Bingo and Wheel of Fortune but most important were the smiles that we brought to each individual and vice versa. Emily and Josephine brought back fond memories of my grandmother and were both very sweet. 

You should be real proud of the organization that you lead and the value that it brings to the community. It is refreshing to hear that such services are still available at a time when they are needed most."
